Grom Hellscream is the last surviving ore chieftain from Draenor. Having led his mighty Warsong clan to countless victories over the humans, Hellscream despaired at the lethargy that overcame his race after the Second War. Hellscream was one of the first ores to fall victim to the demons' curse on his race. He has struggled with the rage and bloodlust within his heart for many long years. Now, under Thrall's visionary, idealistic leadership, Hellscream believes that he and his people can finally be freed from the demons' corrupting influence.

Demon hunters are dark, shadowy warriors who are shunned by the greater night elf society. They made a pact, long ago, to fight against the forces of chaos using its own terrible powers against it. These mysterious warriors ritually blind themselves so that they develop spectral sight that enables them to see demons and undead with greater clarity. They wield demonically charged warblades in battle and even call upon demonic energies to augment their formidable combat skills. Although they are counted as some of the mightiest warriors within the night elves' society, the demon hunters are always maligned and misunderstood for making their selfless pact with darkness. With evasion, the demon hunter gains the advantage of being able to dodge enemy strikes. Although this does not work against every strike, it is nonetheless a powerful defensive tactic. The demon hunter's mastery of dark powers allows him to create a fiery shell around his body that inflicts damage on nearby enemies. This...

By means of this spell, the caster calls an outer planar creature to attack her foes and herself if not careful. The creature summoned in is a Pit Fiend, one of the most powerful demons. This Pit Fiend will attack anyone not protected from evil, including the caster and her party.
The Titans, ruled by an elite sect known as the Pantheon, brought order to a hundred million worlds scattered throughout the Great Dark Beyond during the first ages of creation. The benevolent Pantheon, seeking to safeguard their structured worlds, was ever vigilant against the threat of attack from the vile, extra-dimensional entities of the Twisting Nether. The Nether, an ethereal dimension of chaotic magics that connected the myriad worlds of the universe together, was home to an infinite number of malefic, demonic beings, who sought only to destroy life and devour the energies of the living universe. The pure-hearted, altruistic Titans, unable to conceive of evil or wickedness in any form, struggled to find a way to end the demons' constant threat.
Some speculated that some strange disease, contractible only by ores, brought about the baffling lethargy. But the Archmage, Antonidas of Dalaran, posed a different hypothesis. Researching what little he could find of orcish history, Antonidas learned that the ores had been under the crippling influence of demonic power (or warlock magics) for generations. He speculated that the ores had been corrupted by demonic powers even before their first invasion of Azeroth. Clearly, demons had spiked the ores' blood, which in turn granted the brutes unnaturally heightened strength, endurance and aggression.
Just as Ner'zhul and his followers entered the Twisting Nether -the ethereal plane that connects all of the worlds scattered throughout the Great Dark Beyond - they were ambushed by Kil'jaeden and his demonic minions. Kil'jaeden, who had sworn to take vengeance on Ner'zhul for his prideful defiance, tortured the old shaman mercilessly by slowly tearing his body apart piece by piece. Kil'jaeden kept the shaman's spirit alive and intact - leaving Ner'zhul painfully aware of his body's gross dismemberment. Though Ner'zhul pleaded with the demon to release his spirit and grant him death, the demon grimly replied that the Blood Pact they had made long ago was still binding - and that he would make use of his wayward pawn once again. Holding Ner'zhul's tortured, helpless spirit in stasis, Kil jaeden gave him one last chance to serve the Legion or suffer eternal torment. Once again, Ner'zhul recklessly agreed to the demon's pact. Ner'zhul's spirit was placed within a specially crafted block...
In the Aluvian lands, the days grow shorter. In the northernmost regions, day can last but a few hours. The northern horizon, however, blazes with the annual auroral fires. Mothers tell their children that this light comes from King Borimel's palace in the wastes. According to this children's fable, he takes pity upon the benighted mortals to the south, and so illuminates the sky as best he can. The grim and superstitious Milantans, to the south and east, regard the shimmering sky with fear, thinking of the aurora as the watchfires of Borimel's million snow demons, marching south to wrest control of the summer lands.
It was then that the Fallen One, he whose name must not be spoken, tore asunder the earth. In the land of Golgotha, profaning and defying the very laws of nature, the Fallen One opened a permanent gateway from this world to the demonic realms of the nether. The strain of opening this unnatural portal took its toll upon the world and the earth began to shatter. The Fyllid and all of creation watched in stunned silence as the benevolent Creator warred with the Demons of the nether, but the forces of hell proved too much for even he. A cry of unspeakable anguish broke the silence and echoed in the minds of his children as the creator was forever banished from this existence. None of his children heard the cry so loudly as the Fyllid, for it was one of our own that had ultimately betrayed and murdered our master. Most were driven mad and hurled themselves from one of the newly formed floating islands or sat useless, gibbering and moaning. Come see, come see. I hold dominion over the lands...
These demonic imps have of late become very common throughout the woodlands of the Western Kingdoms. Small and vicious, many worry that if these beings were to band together in large numbers, they might easily overthrow some of the smaller cities in the region. Luckily, cowardice appears to be one of the chief features of this species, and they quickly retreat at the sight of one of their brethren falling in battle. Although Fallen seek to congregate together, so far only small encampments have been found, with no obvious overall organization. While there are wild rumors of Fallen Shaman Priests leading camps of Fallen, supposedly with the power to raise them from the dead, this has yet to be substantiated. Carvers and Dark Ones, tougher cousins of the Fallen, have also been seen closer to the fringes of civilization, indicating that the Brothers' sway may be stronger than previously understood. The corruption of the Sisterhood is perhaps the worst atrocity that the surviving Rogues...
Just because you've defeated the minions of Hell doesn't mean the adventure has to stop. Diablo II offers three difficulty levels Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. After you've completed the game in Normal, Nightmare difficulty level becomes available for that character when selecting it from the Character Selection screen. After Nightmare comes Hell.
The effect of a Protection from Fire spell differs according to the recipient of the magic - either the caster or some other creature. In either case, the spell lasts no longer than one turn per caster level. When the spell is cast, it confers complete invulnerability to normal fires (torches, bonfires, oil fires, and the like) and significant resistance to exposure to magical fires such as fiery dragon breath, spells such as burning hands, fireball, fire seeds, fire storm, flame strike, meteor swarm, hell hound or pyrohydra breath, etc. , absorbing 80 of all the damage dealt by such magical sources.
Unless a man has been through these fighter-bomber attacks he cannot know what the invasion meant. Not until they've wiped out everything do they leave. Ten such attacks in succession are a real foretaste of hell. Brute Force, page 366, describing the effect of rocket-firing Typhoon fighter-bombers
Neither of the panzer divisions fighting at Arnhem are at anything close to full strength. When the fighting starts on September 17, 1944, both the 9th SS and 10th SS Panzer Divisions are at 20 percent to 30 percent strength. Given the British 1st Airborne's lack of antitank weapons and the power of what little strength the Germans have (Tiger tanks), these depleted divisions are strong enough to stop the Red Devils. keep going like hell. Lieutenant General Brian Horrocks, Commander, British XXX Corps, briefing his subordinates on Operation Garden, September 16, 1944
With the assistance of the scholars of Zaikhal, the search parties discovered the path to the mysterious underground city of Frore. Here the fate of the Tremblant Party stood revealed the group had been slain and then turned into undead slaves by an ancient cult of Empyrean necromancers calling themselves the Gelidites. In the depths of the frozen hell of Frore, adventurers struggled through legions of undead sorcerers, who were lead by a council of three dark priests. These three, Ferundi, Frisander, and Fenngar by name, were slain at the gates of the city. In the deepest caverns, parties were brought up short by a cadre of Gelidite Lords led by the powerful sorcerer Frisirth. The Gelidite necromancer controlled Sir Tremblant, who pleaded for death even as he was magically forced to defend his evil master.
I can make neither north nor south of this hell. Twisty curves leading back upon one another up and down turning round and round like an inscrutable sentence with neither beginning nor ending that makes its readers cry out in agony to end the pain, the interminable pain. That is the essence of this Maze. Luckily, my party does not rely upon me for guidance through the dungeon. Not only do Mosswarts have a superb sense of smell, but apparently they do not have to rely on any of the known senses of man to find their way through madness. At least this is how it seems to me. I was foolish not to be able to enjoy paradise when I saw it. It is only now that I know what Hell is.
As with most users of magic, the priests of the cult of Rathnta hail from the far Eastern jungles. They reside in a vast underground city located deep within those jungles. Their specific geographical locale is particularly secluded, however, preventing their assimilation into a formal mage clan. But it is this same isolation that allowed them to pursue their distinct kind of arcane science. For it is through the teachings of Rathma, as well as through years of research and physical experimentation, that these men have come to understand and hold sacred the delicate balance of life and death and are able to twist the line that bonders the two. For although the minions of Hell have long possessed this power, among mortals the knowledge to reanimate and control the dead belongs to these priests alone. It is this practice that has lead outsiders to refer to them as Necromancers. They truly comprehend the balance of all things, and understand and accept their place in what they refer to...
It's like another life now, not my own but a stranger's. I poked at the fire absently with a dead branch, watching the fire eat away at the bark. A Gharu'ndim I once met in Qalaba'r professed his belief that this was the afterlife. We had died, he said, and this is where we had been brought. I questioned him further but he could not tell me whether we had been brought to Heaven or Hell. In my ragged clothes and tousled hair, I sat down on the ground, inadvertently landing in a muddy patch. All around me people were exchanging coin and goods, while heavenly smells wafted from the tavern and people shouted hellos to each other with good cheer. None of them noticed me or even seemed to care.

Your quest is to restore equilibrium to fifty shattered worlds. You do this by possessing mana, whether it be found floating free, contained within some dreadful demonic beast, or in the possession of an evil rival sorcerer. Once possessed, the mana is gathered by hot air balloon and transported to your home castle.
Though the task of policing Ashenvale kept her busy, Tyrande felt lost and alone without Furion at her side. As the long centuries passed while the druids slept, her fears of a second demonic invasion grew more palpable. She could not shake the unnerving feeling that perhaps the Burning Legion was still out there, beyond the Great Dark of the sky plotting its revenge upon the night elves and the world of Azeroth.
Having used their magical forces to defeat a demonic arch-deity, they listened in delight to its last plea for life. It told them of a magical pen and of its power when words were scripted with its point, it said, they were forevermore woven into the cosmic fabric, and thus, the events written came true. The King and his ally slew the demon anyway, but not before discovering the whereabouts of this wondrous instrument of power called 'The Cosmic Forge'. Eventually, they were successful in stealing this pen for themselves, and with it, began to script such horrors for the universe that no man has since imagined. It was shortly after obtaining this Cosmic Forge that the two allies became jealous of each other's power, and realizing they no longer had a need for each other, they engaged in a final climactic battle to determine the fate of themselves and of the magic pen.

Sargeras gathered his vast, demonic army, known as the Burning Legion, and made his way towards the unsuspecting world of Azeroth. The Legion, comprised of a million screaming demons, all ripped from the far corners of the universe, roiled and burned at the thought of conquest. Sargeras' lieutenants, Archimonde the Defiler and Mannoroth the Destructor, prepared their infernal minions to strike. Once all his preparations had been made, Sargeras began his catastrophic invasion of Azeroth. The warrior-demons of the Burning Legion stormed into the world through the Well of Eternity and laid siege to the night elves' sleeping cities. Led by Archimonde and Mannoroth, the Legion swarmed over the lands of Kalimdor leaving only ash and sorrow in its wake. The demon warlocks called down the searing Infern is that crashed, like hellish meteors, into the graceful spires of Kalimdor's temples. The Doomguard, a band of burning, bloodletting killers, marched across Kalimdor's fields slaughtering...

After some ominous additional talk about these living fossils, everything goes haywire. An electrical surge of some sort flash-freezes Rosenthal and ices up the entire room. Command tells you to get the hell out of the dig site and get to a downriver extraction point marked on your map, and the brass apparently means it this time.
To combat the demonic entities that made their way into the Titans' worlds from the Twisting Nether, the Pantheon elected their greatest warrior, Sargeras, to act as their first line of defense. Sargeras, a noble giant of molten bronze, carried out his duties for countless millennia, seeking out and destroying the demons wherever he could find them. Over the eons, Sargeras encountered two powerful demonic races, both of which were bent on gaining power and dominance over the physical universe. The Eredar, an insidious race of devilish sorcerers, used their warlock magics to enslave a number of worlds that they had invaded. The indigenous races of those worlds were mutated by the Eredar's chaotic powers and turned into demons themselves. Though Sargeras' nearly limitless powers were more than enough to defeat the vile Eredar, he was greatly troubled by the creatures' corruption and all-consuming evil. Unable to fathom such depravity and spite, the great Titan slipped into a brooding...

The Umbragen are the descendants of the ancient drow of Xen'drik. When the age of giants ended, the Umbragen fled into the dark depths of Khyber, the underworld. But Khyber is full of horrors mind flayers, beholders and other terrible creatures. In order to hold their own in this world, the Umbragen drew upon the power of the Shadow Flame, and deeply integrated it into their culture. Recently, the Umbragen's war with the denizens of the Underworld has come to the fore again, and the Umbragen need more power if they are to overcome their enemies. To acquire this power, they will enter the Ring of Storms to shatter the Heart of Siberys and absorb the Shadow Flame contained therein.
The month began inauspiciously enough. The pent-up tension of the previous month, the feeling of a wave about to crash against the rocks, hovered still over the heads of all. The clouds still raced, the moons still loomed, and the figure of the Demon still appeared during storms .yet no Shadow activity broke the oppressive quiet. The biggest news was the murder of the Banderling thief known as Gertarh. Each of the Shadow Spires, however, carried a secret treasure a piece of a key. When these were combined in the proper fashion, the doors to the Nexus were opened. Massive parties flooded the facility. Legions of powerful Undead and Shadows resisted their advance, but the sheer numbers told. At the bottom of the Nexus hovered a floating crystal, similar to the Great Work of Frore. It was quickly swarmed by the vengeful Isparians, and fell. Tayway of Thistledown, Freeze of Frostfell, Al Neo of Morningthaw, Qua Badib of Leafcull, Hell Maker of Harvestgain, and Lop of Darktide made the...
Vulture Demons Believed to be the mutated offspring of the large, native vultures that once inhabited these deserts, vulture demons seek only to kill and consume mortal beings that cross their paths. The giant vultures of old were, for the most part, scavengers who ate only the dead or dying. Now befouled, these creatures circle the desert in search of live prey. Their razor sharp beaks and talons can cause deep wounds, and a group of these demons can quickly bring down a victim. Although impossible to target while in flight, these vultures must land to attack, and are vulnerable when on the ground. The extreme temperatures of Aranoch drive many creatures into vatying degrees of insanity. This holds true even for mindless insects. Coupled with demonic influence, large numbers of insects often swirl and twist into tight swarms. These swarms of stinging, biting, and sucking insects consume evety living thing in their path. Swarming bugs are difficult to target and are resistant to most...
Of course, instead of just getting the hell off of Arctic Isle, you have to look for some missing marines. To begin this rescue mission, head down the mountain via the path on the right. Take a moment to enjoy this sudden winter wonderland. Just a moment, though, as you're being tracked by robotic bug-like creatures with flat, almost Kabuki-mask faces and the ability to shoot what seems to be some sort of ice daggers. Don't stand and fight them you don't have the weapons or the ammo to take them on at this point. (If you do decide on a scrap, take note that all alien machines self-destruct after you've shot them down. Keep clear of their carcasses or you might get blown up with them.)

A 'good' reputation (through recurring dubious contacts) in the underworld can be quite helpful The probability of meeting one of the underworld's representatives rises, and under some circumstances, your ships will be totally spared during pirate attacks. Those who care for a good reputation in the underworld should refrain from pirate hunts and...

Personally, I wouldn't have minded if the whole race disappeared into the hell From here, I go to drop off the carving tool, this book, and a letter with an old friend of mine. I will give him instructions to release the tool and the book to the various destination towns throughout Dereth, should I not return on a daily basis to say hello. I will tell him to send the letter as well, and I will warn him not to tarry during the delivery, lest he see whom he delivers to.
Illidan, who had grown dependent on magic's empowering energies, struggled to keep control of himself and his overwhelming hunger to tap the Well's energies once again. However, with Tyrande's patient support, he was able to contain himself and help his brother find the reclusive demi god, Cenarius. Cenarius, who dwelt within the sacred Moonglades of the distant Mount Hyjal, agreed to help the night elves by finding the ancient dragons and enlisting their aid. The dragons, led by the great, red leviathan, Alexstrasza, agreed to send their mighty flights to engage the demons and their infernal masters. Furion, convinced that the Well of Eternity was the demons' umbilical link to the physical world, insisted that it should be destroyed. His companions, knowing that the Well was the source of their immortality and powers, were shocked by the rash notion. Yet Tyrande, seeing the wisdom of Furion's theory, convinced Cenarius and their dragon comrades to storm Azshara's temple and find a...
There was a benefit to the arrival of the scarecrows, however. In their empty heads were seeds that allowed Isparian pumpkins to be grown in Dereth. The traditional autumn foods of pumpkin soup and pie soon graced dinner tables. In keeping with Aluvian custom, some of the pulpy round fruits had demonic faces carved into them. Superstition held that these faces would ward off evil. The Shadows did not seem impressed.
Science breathes a new life in this world. Computers crackle their optical and biological nerves to serve their creators, unlocking the world's mysteries. All of this new information is pumped directly in the minds of the dictators they serve giving them superhuman intellect. Here they are born into a new state of mind and life. Give me mankind's greatest thoughts and I will crush them. These words spoken from Earth's new leader, informally known as Father Prime. These minds no longer serve the people people that they could design and manufacture themselves. Like those given too much power, they serve only themselves by seeking knowledge beyond science itself, into scientific myth. It is in this new study that they focus their greatest energies. The quest has driven them deep into the universe beyond, leading to the undeniable proof of the existence of Heaven, God, and Hell. Which one do you think they want to try to control first Hence our story. Somewhere on the dark side of the...
Demoniac Demoniacs are people (often ex-Heretics) who have been completely possessed by one or more demons. Though they have a natural predisposition to gaining magical power, Demoniacs also acquire balancing military skills as well. Heretic Heretics aim to harness demonic forces to their bidding. While they tend to train themselves with warrior skills, they must also know enough magic to control their infernal allies. Heretics can often be recognized by the number of protective wards and markings they wear to ward off demonic attacks.
They are said to be as long as two humans and weigh as much as three. Said to eat only plant matter, lately they seem to have taken a liking to meat especially human meat. Warriors who have sold their souls to the devil. They wear powerful brass armor and helmets. Only a very experienced swordsman can defeat these highly skilled fighters.
Dreadlords are incredibly powerful demons who wield the powers of darkness and mental domination. These cunning, malefic beings once served as the demon Kil'jaeden's most trusted lieutenants. Yet, at Kil'jaeden's request, the vampiric Dreadlords were sent to watch over the Lich King, Ner'zhul, and ensure that he carried out his orders to sow chaos in the mortal world. Though Dreadlords have been known to revel in the gore of single combat, they generally prefer to manipulate and beguile their enemies from the shadows.
Archimonde the Defller was one of the first demons to rally behind Sargeras when the Burning Legion was formed. Archimonde is heartless and brutal, but very cunning and far sighted. The colossal demon wields limitless warlock magics and primal strength to lay waste to any who would oppose his fiery will. In his heart of hearts, he seeks to become a god and wield powers that rival those of Sargeras himself. After ten thousand years of waiting, he is prepared to invade the world of Azeroth once again. Though he is committed to carry out the invasion in Sargeras' name, he may have ulterior motives in mind for the world and its innate magics.

Occupation Night Elf Demon Hunter - Former Sorcerer Affiliation None Age 15,032 In the dark days, before the War of the Ancients, Illidan was one of the few non-high-borne practitioners of magic. Though his older brother, Furion, warned him that magic was an evil, corrupting power, Illidan steadfastly refused to give up his coveted art. Over time, the noble night Elf lost his soul to a dependency for magic's chaotic energies. Though Illidan used his dark powers to aid his brother against the demons of the Burning Legion, he ultimately betrayed his people by siding with the evil Queen Azshara and her followers. After the war ended and the landmass of Kalimdor was shattered forever, Illidan created a new Well of Eternity to ensure that his coveted, corrupting magic would not disappear from the world. For his sin, his brother, Furion, commanded that he be chained beneath the earth for all time. Illidan has remained caged in darkness ever since.
There are five different possible paths to follow in the game Imperial (religious fanatics, best defence), Renaissance (banking, science, pragmatism, best resource gathering and siege weapons), and Pagan (druidic nature worshipping warriors - best attack). PLUS two combinations Imperial-Renaissance ('Bishops with Gunpowder') and Pagan - Renaissance ('Demons and War Machines'). Consult the tech-tree chart for more information, especially in mult-player mode. In the single player campaign game, the choices you make will determine what path you will follow. There are 3 different campaigns for each path. At the end of Level 1 Flight to Angland, the choice you make will determine whether you take the Imperial or the Pagan Campaign. Later still, you will be given the chance to follow the Renaissance campaign. Each Campaign is quite different, though the first 2 levels of the campaign will always be the same.
The power-hungry Gul'dan, obsessed with obtaining godhood itself, set out on a desperate search for the undersea Tomb of Sargeras that he believed held the secrets of ultimate power. Having already doomed his fellow ores to become the slaves of the Burning Legion, Gul'dan thought nothing of his supposed duty to Doomhammer. Backed by the Stormreaver and Twilight's Hammer clans, Gul'dan succeeded in raising the Tomb of Sargeras from the sea floor. However, when he opened the ancient, flooded vault, he found only crazed demons awaiting him. Seeking to punish the wayward ores for their costly betrayal, Doomhammer sent his forces to kill Gul'dan and bring the renegades back into the fold. For his recklessness, Gul'dan was torn apart by the maddened demons he had set loose. With their leader dead, the renegade clans quickly fell before Doomhammer's enraged legions. Though the rebellion had been quelled, the horde was unable to recoup the terrible losses it had suffered. Gul'dan's betrayal...
The coming of the Three marked a time of evil in the history of Sanctuary unlike any other. The cataclysm that followed their arrival brought immense change to the world when the Three unleashed their hellish followers upon the world. These followers wrought great destruction upon the lands of Sanctuary. That which was not consumed by the arrival of this malevolence was often twisted and altered by the effects of the resulting chaotic forces. Many of the native creatures inhabiting the world became vile and depraved shadows of their natural forms. A world that once allowed the unfettered development and expansion of mankind became a place where only the strongest could survive. The areas most tainted by the Prime Evils' arrival in the mortal realm are the Western Kingdoms, the desert regions of Aranoch, and the jungles of Kejhistan. Unnatural and evil forces are influencing most, if not all, of Sanctuary's beasts to at least some degree. Many have witnessed creatures outside their...
The gargoyles are no real members of the Pact. They are bloodthirsty demons from the inner centre of the world that have been given a form by magic. Grateful for their new bodies and happy to quench their blood thirst at last they throw themselves into battles for their masters. Sorvina's knowledge as an alchemist of the Silver Hand enabled her to join these creatures into the army of the Pact.
Information is sketchy at best regarding the monsters in the City, but the Dwellers are rumoring the existence of demons appearing with increasing regularity. It is possible that these monsters have some sort of connection to the experiments which the Fathers have been performing recently.

Though the Dreadlords were pleased that Ner'zhul's true mission had finally begun, the Lich King himself brooded within the tight, shadowy confines of the Frozen Throne. Despite his vast psychic powers and his complete dominion over the undead, he longed to be free of his icy prison. He knew that Kil'jaeden would never release him from his curse. And, due to his great power, he knew that the demons would destroy him as soon as his mission was completed.
As we break camp, my five companions and I sort out our weapons and supplies. We have accumulated wondrous treasures and mighty weapons. Dreams of returning to enjoy the subtle pleasures that this shared booty could bring fill our wakeful sleep. Sezmar, the samurai Sarah, the priest, and I, a ninja, are the vanguard. Moradin, the thief Prospero, the mage and Tuck, the bishop, bring up the rear. We slowly make our way down the zigzagging corridor. Suddenly, the eldritch light cast by Sarah's Lomilwa spell reveals a secret door. Kicking the door open, we charge into a small room. Unfortunately, the hellhounds, demons and deadly creeping coins do not welcome company. A fierce battle ensues that shakes the very foundation of the maze. I slay one demon with my bare hands, while Sezmar dispatches hellhounds with his Muramasa blade. The tide of battle turns and twists in a kaleidoscope of weapons and mystical energies. Finally Prospero ends it. While Sarah shields us behind a Maporfic spell,...
MAKING DEMONS This is a feature only available to the Evolved. When your Clan Hall has been upgraded to Tech Level 5, a new building will appear in your Buildings Menu. But as a result of their sacrifice, you'll receive one nasty demon critter, the Scourge Demon. And believe, me, that's a decent payoff
The resourceful yet inexperienced Thrall decided to escape from Blackmoore's fortress and set off to find others of his kind. During his journeys Thrall visited the internment camps and found his once mighty race to be strangely cowed and lethargic. Having not found the proud warriors he hoped to discover. Thrall set out to find the last undefeated ore chieftain, Grom Hellscream. Despite being constantly hunted by the humans, Hellscream still held onto the horde's unquenchable will to fight. Aided only by his own devoted Warsong clan, Hellscream continued to fight an underground war against the oppression of his beleaguered people. Unfortunately, Hellscream could never find a way to rouse the captured ores from their stupor. The impressionable Thrall, inspired by Hellscream's idealism, developed a strong empathy for the horde and its warrior traditions. Under the tutelage of the venerable shaman, Drek'Thar, Thrall studied the ancient shamanistic culture of his people that had been...
While the Egg shone in all its majesty, awaiting that day - blessed be it - when it hatches a new Firebird, they would sleep and caper. Down in the cool stone depths, they squabbled and bartered, in their simpleminded way, over the shiniest objects that had been recovered. They would reproduce, in scores. Being feeble creatures, they kept their numbers by having litters of a dozen at a time. They would make small fires - perhaps their only civilized skill - and crudely roast or boil what discarded food they had brought down from above, to feed their kittens. While Drudges can see quite well in the dark, they do require some light. They are not philosophers of magic, nor demons, who can see in the complete absence of light.
Then one day I was approached by a dealer of dubious antiques. Amongst the obvious fakes and worthless old bones was a scroll that he claimed was over a thousand years old. He assured me that no one had ever opened it, and demanded an outrageous 500 g.p. for the item. Intrigued, I haggled him down to a mere 80 g.p. and took the scroll back to my study. When I attempted to break open the seal, it popped off in my hand The scroll had been carefully opened and then gently resealed. Making a note to summon a demon to deal with the scurrilous knave, I settled down to study the scroll. It actually seemed quite old and was in very poor condition. The I was filled with hope. If I could correctly follow the clues this document provided, the amulet and all its power could be mine. Now I regretted consigning the soul of the antique dealer to Hell. In the hope that the gauntlets mentioned in the ancient scroll were the means by which the amulet could be handled safely, my agents went into search...
From the very first moment you enter the door, till the last gunshot of the game, you'll be fighting a host of baddies. Some are just regular guys with a bad attitude, others are straight from Hell. Some of the monsters you'll face aren't shown here. Don't say we didn't warn you. TIP Create dissension among demons by maneuvering them into a crossfire. If a bad guy is hit by another demon, he'll turn his rage towards the poor jerk with the pitiful aim. If this happens, let 'em at each other it's always best to let the bad guys do the work for you. (This isn't effective with projectiles fired between demons of the same form.) Demon Sorta like a shaved gorilla, except with horns, a big head, lots of teeth, and harder to kill. Don't get too close or they'll rip your fraggin' head off. Cacodemon They float in the air, belch ball-lightning, and boast one Hell of a big mouth. You're toast if you get too close to these monstrosities. Hell Knight Tough as a dump truck and nearly as big, these...

The previous mission served as a reminder that the Genestealers are more than just a menace-they are a worthy opponent. The sheer number of the Evil that were encountered have led us to abandon that area as an entry point. The Hulk has been scanned and another possible area found. Secure strategic points and establish an assault perimeter for your fellow brothers to enter by. Be on your guard, for the Genestealers know of our presence. Go forth and let your weapons preach terror to the Hell's foe,
If a sailor hasn't seen land, a real bed, a decent meal or a pretty woman for months, the first time he hits a city he's probably going to raise some hell. Roaring through the streets, breaking into shops, accosting the ladies, a sailor is a positive menace to a town. However, if he's getting drunk, eating, gambling or buying drinks for fancy ladies in a wharf tavern, he's an economic boom.
Geographically, Kehjistan encompasses almost one-third of Sanctuary's eastern hemisphere. With an average rainfall of over four hundred inches per year, Kehjistan has the largest rainforests in the known world. This huge expanse of jungle feeds the Argentek River, which is the longest, widest river in Sanctuary. Hundreds of smaller rivers and tributaries twist and turn their way through the lush tropical forests until they finally unite with the mighty Argentek. Herbalists and alchemists revere the rainforest environment for its ecological diversity. Until recently, these sages would come from far and wide to study and collect the rare plants and animals that make their homes here. Now the jungle is far too dangerous to visit, let alone inhabit. Entire villages, even small cities have been wiped out. News has broken that Kurast, the current capital of Kehjistan, is now under siege by the powers of Hell, and is kept safe only through powerful magical barriers that even now begin to ebb...
This started out as a completely different level. It was originally located in Iraq, which explains why it uses that texture set. The whole goal of the level hadn't changed, though, so I re-textured a lot of it and rebuilt some areas. The cinematic of Hawk blowing up the fuel station was one of the first scripts I wrote. I remember thinking there was no way in hell I was going to be able to pull off what I saw in my head, but in the end it came very close. The idea of stealth being an option in the start of the level was added towards the end the project. I based the architecture from memories of old war movies. Kevin Long loaned me some airplane books, which had cool pictures of several different hangars. After seeing those I tried to make my own hybrid of styles. I remember staying up all night doing an intro cinematic for the E3 expo. When Scott Rice (our lead artist) came in and saw it the following day he told me he was confused by the cuts between shots. Lucky for him, I was too...
The streets are extremely volatile lately and even though the Riot Helmet may annoy some of your delicate cranial casings, it could save your life. It should be tightly secured using the chin strap and be sure that it does not slide around at all. These items are designed to stop and absorb most standard issue rounds. If you are shot, you'll have one hell of a headache but you'll still be around to complain about it.
Born on September 29th, 2172 AD, Kim was raised by the Hampstead Creche. This was a peculiar place, set amongst decaying buildings, and heavily reliant on a mix of relationship-engineering, behaviour conditioning and Hell-Fire religion. It was finally closed in 2185 for breaches of the Android Protection Acts. It seems to have done Kim little harm however, though possibly contributing to a tendency towards introversion.
The fires of hell rise up to meet the enemies of the Warlock clan. Their sorceries are rooted in the deepest pits of the underworld, and their command over flame and the monstrosities they create is a cause for great fear to their victims. The basic fire spell which all followers of the Orcish cults (the underworld) first learn. It channels the flames of Hades through the caster's body, allowing the wielder to direct it as a missile at anyone he chooses. It is a dangerous magik to employ, but the effects seem to delight even the lowest circle of Warlock to no end. The most powerful spell ever rumored to exist. Legends say that the caster would have the ability to summon forth a daemon by allowing his body to be sacrificed to enable its existence in this plane. The daemon would then be guided by the spirit of the caster to do his bidding, but should the daemon be destroyed, the warlock's life would be forfeit. The truth to this tale is questionable, but the incantations and rituals...
The Down Time is simply a period during which galcom figures out what to do next based on the outcome of the previous scenario. During this period you can repair or upgrade your damaged systems, buy new weapons, treat your injured crew, or seek out and beat up that trader who told you about the secure trade route and got you into one hell of a fire fight. You can pretty much do whatever you want. If you are reasonably confident, you can request your next orders from galcom via the bridge menu. This is the only time during which you get to request new orders. If you don't request new orders, galcom will automatically send you new orders once this down time expires.
But if by some impossible concatenation of words I were able to describe the Singularity to you, then it is possible, although unlikely given your meat and electric brain, that you would be able to understand the predicament that we expeditionary Virindi find ourselves in. To us this plane is a constant hellish tumult, random forces and intents creating a tempest with no respite, a symphony of chaos without a maestro. Within the Singularity, we are one mind, one voice. Here, we are a tapestry of discord. And the Directive .the Directive doesn't just preserve Order, Martine, it requires it. I could not understand half of what this Overseer was saying, but I certainly empathized with its talk of hell and chaos. I felt a mental vertigo that had become a normal state of affairs for me over the past two months. If my mind and body had not already been broken beyond repair, I might have marveled at this sheer absurdity. Instead, I just stood there silent as the Overseer continued.
Here Abrim of Morningthaw recounts the perils he and Kyoujin faced in the bowels ofthe lost city. The blessings ofthe Dragon, Firebird, and Unicorn watch over them - over all who descended to the frozen hell ofthat dread metropolis. Without your sacrifice, we should have faced a still, cold doom. Your names shall be held in honor forevermore, the first champions of a new era in Dereth.
With a hint of brimstone in the air, the noble Paladin strides into battle encased in this holy aura. All those within its range are burnt with the fires of divine virtue. Beware, Beasts of Hell The fire of purification is upon you Using this aura, the Paladin causes the temperature of the air around him to drop drastically, freezing the flesh of his enemies . Those so affected will find their movement drastically hindered and are easily dispatched back to the Hells from whence they spawned. It is fearsome enough to behold the power of a Paladin, yet alone a Paladin aglow with the aura of Conviction. This halo of righteousness demonstrates, with force, the grim determination of those who shine within its brilliance. Any who stand against the Paladin and his allies will understand the meaning of folly.
As Hell's will has corrupted the land, mages and smiths crafted many magical means to keep the people safe from harm. Fine jewelry, armor, and weapons were often enchanted with arcane energies in an effort to assist those who battled against the tide of evil. During your travels you will likely encounter items imbued with these magics, whose names appear in blue when highlighted. Since the coming of the Three, the world has become a veiy dangerous place. With the minions of Hell freely roaming the land, only the suicidal would travel without protection of some kind. There are numerous weapons available to those who wish to keep their limbs intact, some better suited than others for dealing with threats. Precious gems embody innate magical abilities. When set into a socketed item these gems can add powerful magic effects. Higher grades of gems have stronger effects. There are five grades of gems chipped, flawed, standard, flawless, and perfect. Once inserted, gems cannot be removed...
Barbarian wanlots of the Shadow Wolf Tribe ate masters of the axe. Through the axe, they sought to match the swiping claws and the biting teeth of the wolves with which they lived and fought beside. These first axes were but etude stones mounted on wooden hafts, and after learning the secret of steel and swotds torn Bul-Kathos, the axe soon fell into disfavor. Recently, however, war-riots and smiths front the Steppes have perfected the axe as a weapon equal to or greater than the sword. The Wolf Tribe once again teaches the swift and terrible power of the axe to those who wish to leam how to cull the weak from the herd and to protect their pack from the legions of Hell. A Barbarian warrior in battle is a fearsome enough sight. They cover their bodies with strange markings and the fire in their eyes can be seen front across a battlefield. Early in his training a warrior must learn how to tap the primal energies around him and utter a howl in battle a bellow so fierce that it will send...
When the Genestealers launched the attack on the Terminator's defence perimeter, all hell broke loose. The battle was bloody and violent, with both sides taking heavy casualties. Due to ammunition shortages and weapon lock-ups the Imperial forces took 50 casualties. As the attack subsided it was noticed that a group of Techmarines with minimal life signs were moving away from the perimeter. Rather than allow the Chapters gene seed to fall into alien hands it was decided to sacrifice the Techmarines. Your squads must make their way through the Hulk, to the rooms where the Techmarines ore being held. One Heavy Flamer shot will put the captives out of the inevitable misery they will face at the mercy of the Genestealers.
The horde of the Tartars is numberless. When one is killed, another ten spring from the hell whence he came. Each of them has the head of a dog, and carries with him sufficient weapons for three or four warriors. The Mongols were savages, hardly human, ' fiends from hell. But above all, the Mongols couldn't be stopped. The Mongols have been described as the Khmer Rouge of their day willing to kill anyone and everyone who opposed them and reduce all urban civilisation (which in practice means all civilisation, full stop) back to the level of the peasant toiling in the field.
In addition to trolls, dwarfs and humans, the Discworld is home to a number of undead. Vampires, zombies and werewolves all co-exist with the living, not always peacefully, but there's something about having a blood-sucking hellspawn living next door that doesn't encourage you to invite them around for dinner The interior of a typical temple to one of the old, dark gods will disobey a fairly basic rule of architecture by being bigger than the outside. It is likely to be full of corridors, of tunnels full of unpleasant carvings and occasional disjointed skeletons, hell-lit by a light so violet that it is almost black. The eight-sided crystals set at intervals in the walls and ceiling shed a rather unpleasant glow that doesn't so much illuminate as outline the darkness. The floor is a continuous mosaic of eight sided tiles and the corridor walls and ceilings are angled to give the corridors eight sides1 It is doubtful that a place as inherently magical as the Discworld could ever have a...
Devils Tongue Flame Tank Terror is a formidable weapon, and the sheer sight of this nightmarish unit is enough to cause GDI troops to tremble. Capable of burrowing through all but the hardest of substances, the Devil's Tongie can unleash cteadly jets of flame on unsuspecting targets with impunity. The flame is especially effective against infantry and structures, although prolonged exposure to its blasts can even rrelt steel,
The origin of the latter is not clear. The Latin draco gave drac in Romanian, which means both dragon and devil . Vlad Ill's father, Vlad II, was himself nicknamed Dracul because he belonged to the Order of the Dragon ( Societas draconistarum ) founded by Emperor Sigismond of Luxembourg in 1408. As for the son, Draculae or Dracula, would be the son of the Dragon or mthe son of the Devil . The nickname Dracula strangely also resembles an old Slavic word, dr'kol' , which means stake or pale . The word Dracula might therefore echo the Romanian Tepes (the Impaler) and recall the type of torture that the prince inflicted on his victims most often.
Though their numbers are few, the seasoned blademasters represent an elite fighting force within the horde. These skilled swordsmen were once part of the ill-fated Burning Blade clan that consumed itself in the throes of demonic corruption. With their clan scattered and broken, the proud blademasters swore a grim oath to free themselves and their brethren from demonic control once and for all. Under Thrall's command, the blademasters have once again joined the horde and serve as the young warchiefs personal guard. Though blademasters are masters of stealth and guile, they value personal honor above all else.
Tichondrius the darkener is an insidious demonic Dreadlord who revels in shadow and suffering. Though he honors the wishes of his master, Kil'jaeden, he resents his duty to watch over and police the Lich King, Ner'zhul. He believes that the Lich King will ultimately betray the Legion and attempt to free himself from its power. Tichondrius is, above all, a very good soldier. Though his own desire for power and conquest is fierce, he carries out his duties with calculated precision and care.
Some decades later, Paladins were again called into setvice. During the height of the Time of Troubles, the Church commenced a second campaign of conversion. This time, however, the unconvincible were deemed to be evil. The Zakarum Inquisition spread through the lands like a tempest, laying waste to all suspected of demonic possession or corruption. Leading this crusade was a new generation of Paladins, known as the Hand of Zakarum . These cavaliers of righteousness swept through the lands, expunging the taint of demonic contamination wherever they found it. Paladins use holy magic as gifted by the High Heavens. They must maintain strictly ordered lives, constantly upholding the cause of Virtue and Light. They must never succumb to worldly temptations lest they risk being deceived into following false lights demons masquerading as Heavenly beings
Having used their magical forces to defeat a demonic arch-deity, they listened in delight to its last plea for life. It told them of a magical pen and of its power when words were scripted with its point, it said, they were forevermore woven into the cosmic fabric, and thus, the events written came true. The King and his ally slew the demon anyway, but not before discovering the whereabouts of the wondrous instrument of power called 'The Cosmic Forge.' Eventually, they were successful in stealing this pen for themselves, and with it, began to script such horrors for the universe that no man has since imagined. It was shortly after obtaining this Cosmic Forge that the two allies became jealous of each other's power, and realizing they no longer had a need for each other, they engaged in a final climactic battle to determine the fate of themselves and of the magic pen.
My minions are drawn from a myriad of sources the pestilent, the corrupt, the dead and the demonic. Well, perhaps not as diverse a group as other gods, but it suffices. Be aware that none of my creatures heal themselves normally, but all of them are capable of restoring their health by harming others. And thus, their pleasure is born of pain. You see, my commitment to such principles is not in word alone. Also note the character summaries beneath my descriptions. Passive abilities come into play automatically when the creature attacks or moves. Special abilities however require mana and have to be activated by you in order to take effect Not all of my minions possess special abilities. A final point I should like to impress upon you is that all ranged units require mana to attack in their normal fashion
(yoe-SHEE-moe) Yoshimo (neutral, human male, bounty hunter) is a free-spirited thief from the land of Kara-Tur, far from the Faerun continent. His ideals of honor and culture are unique to his land and he has often encountered barriers against his acclimatizing to life in the West. Yoshimo is fairly adventurous, however, and has not allowed such a thing to deter him. Wandering from land to land, he has made a living for himself (as well as a fair reputation as a rapscallion) working for those with the coin to pay him. He has been in Athkatla for some time and has had the opportunity to make more than a few contacts amongst the Amnish underworld.
Pickup items appear vertically along the right portion of the screen in the backpack. These are items that you usually find in the underworld, although not always. They can be used at any time for the noted benefit by left-clicking on their icon. You have a limited number of backpack slots, and will receive a warning note if you try to pick up excess items.
Inferno towns can be found in Erathian regions blighted by the emergence of the underworld on the surface. Demoniac and Heretic heroes stand in uneasy alliance with these towns. Inferno armies have great hand-to-hand attack units and are only slightly hampered at the lower levels by a lack of flying units until the awesome, teleporting devil and arch devil units can be brought into play.
There are two mini-maps in the lower-left panel. The map on the left represents the overworld (above-ground battlefield), and the map on the right depicts the underworld. The white box is your current view you can move the current view around either map by left-clicking on the mini-map.
The game has its origins and distinctive features. Thanks to dark forces and the ability of necromancers to raise dead warriors, commanders, and shamans and simply summon undead legions from the underworld, the undead race is able to create the largest armies of all the races in the game. However, the fragile bones of mummies and skeletons, the sluggishness of zombies and the vulnerability of werewolves and vampires, create certain disadvantages for this race. The Elves have gathered many wonderful forest creatures under their banner. They are second only to the undead in terms of numbers but many of their warriors have auras and magic. The elven armies rely mainly on pikemen, archers and, of course, fast centaurs.
While Medusa is the most famous of the Gorgons, there were actually many of them, though only three are named in Greek mythology.Medusa, Euryale, and Stenno. OnlyMedusa was mortal. The Gorgons were monstrous creatures covered with scales, hair of living serpents, hands of brass, and sharp fangs. It is not always clear if it was seeing the horrid visage ofa Gorgon or meeting theirgaze that could turn the viewer to stone. The Gorgons lived far to the west where they guarded an entrance to the underworld.
Warlocks are highly intelligent (yet utterly evil) sorcerers, who have been shunned by the Overworld and now seek refuge in the depths of the Underworld. Warlocks are tireless in their quest for knowledge and likely to ally with any Keeper who allows them access to his extensive Libraries. 9.1.11 BILE DEMON Bile Demons are huge, disgusting and gluttonous creatures cursed with notoriously poor control of the most rudimentary bodily functions. Their primary use is combat, a field in which their success owes more to their hefty bulk than to any particular combat skills. However, they do also have basic construction skills so can be put to work in the Workshop. Bile Demons, not best known for their intellect, loathe researching. They also have an ongoing antipathy towards Skeletons and Giants. If possible, they'll set up their beds in the proximity of a Hatchery to avoid having to waddle too far for food.
The only clan to ignore these plays for power were the Warlocks. Secluded in their towers, they saw the danger that was present. Although it pleased the Necromancers that these battles fed the earth and underworld with rivers of blood, the Warlocks feared that no Orc would be left alive. This would serve to upset the delicate balance that allowed them to control the powers that they held in check and called upon to work their magiks. If this balance were to be maintained, the Orcish hordes would need to be supplied with new battles against a common foe.
The electromagnetic pulse of the antimatter meteorite had no effects underwater. Of course, there were some flood waves, but primarily the surface of Terra was converted into a kind of hell. Calculations will prove that even the axis of the earth was slightly out of line due to the one sided melting of the icecaps. For this purpose, scientists would have to travel to the surface though.
Scattered throughout all the lands of Sanctuary are these walking vessels of Hell's influence on the mortal realm. For in recent times, the newly dead have risen anew to terrorize and assault the living. These corpses and spirits of the deceased, twisted and corrupted, ate imbued with a hatred for the living that defies understanding. The undead loathe the living and seek only to consume warm flesh and blood. It has reached the point where all who value their lives are sure to butcher and burn the remains of loved ones and pets who have fallen prey to death. One needs to be sure in these troubled times. Below are descriptions of a few of the living dead known to exist Zombies Fierce undead warriors, skeletons do not seek to consume the flesh of the living, but only to extinguish the life of their victims. Skeletons, unrelenting in their goal, move faster than zom- 1 bies and have some spark of intelligence as demonstrated by their use of weapons. These bony undead have been observed...

A marriage broker will offer you a bride groom, with detailed information about her his standing and the dowry she he brings in. Your underworld recognition should not be underestimated. If your situation is respectable, you will be flooded with proposals, and you can only put an end to this annoying situation if you get married

On the other hand if you are a bit pushier, you will be considered rough, brave, daring, aggressive, inconsiderate or even darn right dangerous. ReputaHon in the Underworld Your reputation amongst the underworld depends largely on the number and nature of your contacts with it. The more you seek the company of pirates or dubious characters at the pub, your more your reputation will grow.
The Syrons are the original inhabitants of the Shadow Realm from when that world was clean and filled with light. They explored the cosmos employing the powers of magic to perfect their world. Then the Shadow Demons came. For thousands of years the Syrons battled the Shadow Demons but over time their exhausted world was consumed in darkness. Their once strong spirits bear the weight of a thousand generations of doomed children. The Syrons may possess the power to defeat the Shadow Demons but lacking the ability to dispel their dismal past the Syrons will remain as trapped food to grow a new batch of hungry monsters that are eager to enslave...
The Bionts plunged Aqua into a whirlpool of violence and desperation. Apocalyptic religions such as that of the Moghs ( Salvation lies on the surface ) or the Hadesians ( Typhon, the devil, will rule in his realm of liquid night ) became popular. Others deemed the Bionts an extraterrestrial civilization, come to punish humanity for its failure on the surface of the planet.
